Idolatrous high priest of Midian. Father of Zipporah, father-in-law of Moses. Eventually he abandoned his pagan lifestyle and joined the Israelites in the desert shortly after the Exodus. There he suggested the creation of a hierarchy of magistrates and judges to assist Moses in the task of administrating justice. Also known by six other names, including Chever and Reuel.
